How long until your Estonian company can send its first invoice?

Most of the time goes on e-Residency: the decision is due within 30 days (source: politsei.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026), then the card usually takes 2–5 weeks (source: politsei.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026) to arrive. An online company application is reviewed within 1 working day (source: riigiteataja.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026). Enter a start date for a dated plan.

How the dates are worked out

  1. Apply for e-Residency online and pay the state fee (€150 (source: politsei.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026)).
  2. Wait for the decision. The Police and Border Guard Board decides within 30 days (source: politsei.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026); that is its time limit, which can be extended.
  3. Collect the digital ID card in person once it reaches your pickup location, usually 2–5 weeks (source: politsei.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026) after the decision.
  4. Arrange a legal address for the company, and a contact person if the address is abroad. The e-Residency programme gives 1–7 days (source: e-resident.gov.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026) as the typical time.
  5. Register the company online with the card. Under the expedited procedure the registrar reviews the application within 1 working day (source: riigiteataja.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026).
  6. Open a business account. How long this takes depends on the provider.
  7. Send your first invoice once the company is registered and can receive payment.

Each duration is either an official time limit or a typical time given by the official or provider source, and the plan uses the upper end of any range. None of them is a promise. Weekends are skipped for durations given in working days; public holidays are not. You can download the dates as a calendar file (.ics) that works with Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook. The file is created in your browser.

Worked example

Starting on 1 November 2026, without an e-Residency card, with LHV Pank:

  1. 1 November 2026 Apply for e-Residency
Apply online, pay the state fee (€150) and choose where you will collect your card.
  2. 1 December 2026 Application decision
The Police and Border Guard Board decides within 30 days. That is its time limit, which can be extended, for example if extra checks are needed.
  3. 5 January 2027 Collect your digital ID card
The card usually reaches your pickup location 2–5 weeks after the decision; this plan uses the upper end. You collect it in person, so plan any travel.
  4. 12 January 2027 Legal address and contact person arranged
The company needs an address, in Estonia or abroad; with an address abroad, it also needs a contact person. Service providers offer both. The e-Residency programme gives 1–7 days as the typical time to arrange this; this plan uses the upper end and starts once you have the card, although you may be able to arrange it sooner.
  5. 12 January 2027 Submit the company registration
Sign in with your digital ID card, submit the application in the e-Business Register portal and pay the state fee (€265).
  6. 13 January 2027 Company registered
For an online application under the expedited procedure, the registrar has to review it within 1 working day of receiving it; an application sent outside working hours counts as received on the next working day. It takes longer if the registrar asks for corrections. The company then appears in the e-Business Register.
  7. — Open a business account with LHV Pank
LHV Pank publishes no typical time to open an account, so this step has no date. The first invoice date assumes you have an account by the time the company is registered.
  8. 13 January 2027 Send your first invoice
Once the company is registered and has an account to receive payment, it can invoice clients.

What to check next

  1. Which pickup location you will choose, and how you will get there
  2. Who will provide the legal address, and a contact person if your company needs one, before you register
  3. What documents your business account provider will ask for
  4. Whether you need VAT registration from the start
