Legal address

Also called: registered address, company address

A company's official address, recorded publicly in the e-Business Register, where official notices and documents are delivered.

A legal address is a company’s official address. It is entered in the e-Business Register, where anyone can see it, and it is where the company receives official notices, procedural documents and letters from public authorities.

Under the Commercial Register Act, the address can be in Estonia or abroad. If it is abroad, the company must also designate a contact person in Estonia, and documents delivered to the contact person count as delivered to the company. Founders who live outside Estonia often rent an Estonian address from a licensed service provider instead. The e-Residency programme describes the choice as getting either a legal address or a contact person service from a licensed provider.

A legal address is not an office, and on its own it does not mean the company is run from Estonia. Where the business is actually managed is a separate question: see place of effective management. The e-Residency programme lists the cost of a legal address or contact person service as €200 per year (source: e-resident.gov.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026) to €400 per year (source: e-resident.gov.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026). For the other running costs, read How much does an Estonian company cost per year? or try the cost calculator.
