Contact person

Also called: kontaktisik

A person in Estonia who receives official documents for a company. A company whose address is abroad must have one.

A contact person is someone in Estonia to whom official documents for a company can be delivered. Documents delivered to the contact person count as delivered to the company, and the contact person’s address is treated as the company’s address.

Under the Commercial Register Act (§ 24), a company must designate a contact person if its address is abroad. A company with an Estonian address may have one but doesn’t have to.

When a contact person is required, only a notary, an advocate, the owner of a law firm, a sworn auditor, an audit firm, a tax representative or an authorised trust and company service provider may take the role. The appointment is registered for a fixed term and is removed from the register automatically when the term ends. A company that doesn’t designate a required contact person can be deleted from the register or compulsorily dissolved.

Many e-residents use a service provider, which often supplies the legal address as well. The e-Residency programme lists the cost of either service as €200 per year (source: e-resident.gov.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026) to €400 per year (source: e-resident.gov.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026). The guide to yearly costs puts it alongside the other running costs.
